Designing the Makeba Agent Portal for secure and efficient cash payouts.
Context
The Makeba Agent Portal is a web-based tool that enables retailers and banks in Cape Verde to facilitate cash payouts to recipients of international transfers sent through the Makeba Money app.
Role
Lead designer
Goal
Create a simple, secure and efficient portal that helps agents verify transactions, manage payouts and maintain trust with customers collecting funds.
This portal forms a key part of the Makeba ecosystem, which connects senders in the USA with recipients in Cape Verde through a mobile-first, low-cost remittance platform.
Challenge
The design needed to balance operational simplicity with financial security. Agents often work in busy retail environments with limited technical training, so the interface had to be fast, intuitive and reliable. At the same time, it needed to comply with financial regulations, providing verification and record-keeping features that prevent fraud and ensure accountability.
Approach
I designed the portal using Figma and FigJam, focusing on clarity, usability and error-free workflows.
Mapped the agent journey from login to payout confirmation.
Designed clean, minimal screens optimised for both desktop and tablet use.
Prioritised quick lookup and validation features to minimise waiting times for customers.
Created clear feedback and confirmation states to guide agents confidently through each transaction.
Collaborated with developers and compliance teams to align the design with data and security requirements.
Outcome
A functional agent portal that enables quick, secure cash payouts to Makeba recipients.
Reduced processing time and errors at payout locations through an intuitive interface.
Strengthened trust and reliability between Makeba and its network of retail and banking partners.
Established a scalable design foundation for future agent features and expanded payout networks.
Designing a connected ecosystem for Makeba - a fintech platform enabling simple, secure money transfers between the USA and Cape Verde.
